user comment Motorola H17 Folding Bluetooth Headset Best bluetooth headset I've ever owned. on/off switch is the best!

Finally! A physical on/off switch! Sooo many times I've answered my phone with my headset in my pocket and having to switch the call back to the handset. The physical on/off switch works great, especially with the rapid connect. Its on and connected to the phone in like 5-8 seconds, really impressive! People say the volume controls are a little small, but they work fine for me. Mute is easy to use and automatically switches off if you switch to another call. Voice battery level notifications are useful as well, no need to decipher LED colors or flashes to figure out if it needs a charge.

Love it! Can't really find anything to complain about.

I've had several bluetooth ear pieces 2 of the P.discovers the old one and the new one,I've had 3 other motor. But this one is Far the Best one, you can hear on it, matter of fact it's the 1st one I've had to turn down,it's light,like nothing on your ear.I really mean it,on your ear not in it.I have to have a bluetooth you can hear on because I drive an 18 wheeler.I'm really glad they came out with this h17. Thank you BMB ps,and it doesn't echo like the new p discover.
user comment Motorola H17 Folding Bluetooth Headset Unbelieveably comfortable

I was just about to give up on any bluetooth headset from working for me. I wanted one that I could hear, the caller could hear me without all the background noise and wouldn't hurt my ear - I know way too much to ask for. Well this one fit the bill.

It's unbelieveably comfortable because it doesn't go in the ear, it sits outside the ear. It's so light I forget I have it on. I can hear clearly and adjust the volume easily, callers don't complain about background noise but most importantly it's comfortable - all day comfort. It comes with extra ear hooks and ear rubbers to find your best fit. Only problem so far was my jacket knocked it off my ear and I didn't notice it was out but saw it on the ground.

Battery charges with USB or electric outlet and seems to last 1 to 1 1/2 days, so I recharge every night and no problem. I can't say enough about the comfort of wearing this one all day. I'm just amazed.

I drive a tractor trailer and they can be very noisy, this unit is the best that I have owned. It is very comfortable, on/ off button, boom and volume controls. It is very small and very lightweight, I highly recommend it, my friends can hear me clearly outside with the wind and they are very clear on my end. Buy this unit and you won't buy another one.
user comment Motorola H17 Folding Bluetooth Headset Some nice improvements over the previous H710

The H17 has some nice improvements over my older H710:

* Improved ear loop
* Voice prompts
* Smaller design
* Improved multi-point and fast answer on opening boom

Cons:

* No auto-answer
* very small charge indicator LED

The ear loop on the H17 allows the headset to fit more securely to your ear. The H710 was susceptible to falling off if you tilted your head. The H17 fits a lot more securely when paired with one of the appropriate ear hooks supplied. I used the smaller of the extra supplied hooks to get the best fit. Surprisingly the earloop does not hurt my ear even after a long day. I actually forget at times that I'm wearing my headset. You also get two 'in the ear' adaptors which are completely useless. I don't know what Motorola were thinking when they included these

The H17 is a lot smaller than the H710 and it looks a lot less obtrusive on the ear. It also does not cover most of your ear like the H710 which means you can still scratch an itch on most parts of your ear without having to remove the headset.

At first I thought the voice prompts were a gimmick but they certainly do come in useful. I have two phones connected to my H17 and when you power up the H17, a nice lady voice tells you that phone 1 is connected and then phone 2. It also informs you about the remaining battery level. All these prompts are very useful to me as I don't have to look at the phone displays to check if they have connected successfully. Also, if one of the phones happens to lose connection eg: when you move out of range, the voice prompt will inform you which phone has been disconnected. When you move back into range, the disconnected phone(s) will reconnect automatically most of the time. Sometimes you have to power down the headset and then power it back on to reconnect.

What's also great is that when you get an incoming call, the voice prompt tells you which phone the call is coming from before it actually connects you to the caller. This is very useful in a noisy car when my iPhone rings and I can't hear it. In the past, I would miss the call but now the voice prompt will say 'call on phone 2' and I can then press the answer button on the headset to answer.

Unfortunately a feature that is lacking is 'auto answer'. I have a Nokia 3500 and an iPhone 3GS. The Nokia supports auto answer as a phone function which means that if I get a call on the Nokia (phone 1), it will auto answer without me having to press the answer button on the H17. This is very useful especially when both hands are occupied when you receive a call. Unfortunately Apple have not included this feature as a phone function on their iPhone which means I have to press the answer button on the H17 when receiving a call on the iPhone. I'm not sure if the auto answer feature is available on any other headset out there. This is my only gripe really with the H17 but then again, Apple should make an effort to add this feature as a firmware update to the iPhone. This should be a phone feature rather than a headset feature.

The H17 also has a secondary microphone just below the answer button and this serves to monitor external noise and improve your conversation in noisy environments. I can't really comment much on this feature as I have not really done any conclusive tests on it. I have been on calls in fairly noisy environments eg: restaurants and in the car and the quality has been pretty good; possibly better than the H710 but it could be my imagination.

The charging/status LED is very small and sits in the middle of the volume rocker switch. I really battle to see the colour of the light and cannot really tell the difference in the colours from yellow to green. Even red gets me as I am a little colour blind. The H710 had a large LED round the answer button and was therefore easy to see the colour differences. This is not a big issue though. If you charge the headset for about 2 to 5 hours, it should be fully charged.

Overall, this is a really great headset and probably the best one I've owned to date and I've used quite a few in the past ranging from Plantronics, Jabra and Jawbone. I really think that Motorola come out tops. The flip boom is a big selling point for me. There is nothing more frustrating than switching a headset on and off by pressing and holding a button and waiting for it to make X amount of beeps or light flashes to inform you that the heaset is on or off.

Battery life is pretty much the same deal as any other headset out there and depends obviously on how much time you spend in conversation etc. To check your battery level at any time, simply turn the headset off and then on and the voice prompt will tell you if your battery is full, medium or low.
